Bad Boy Burlesque
Wow, what a big weekend… It started with a band shoot, then a midsumma burlesque shoot where I stalked Adrian on his first real photography gig, then a gay pride march shoot and then I totally crashed into bed and today I feel really yuck (not hung over in case you were presuming, just bloody tired).
Anyways, I have only had a few minutes to even look at my shots from the first two shoots. I’m really new to this concept of event photogrpahy. As in where people are relying on you to produce something more artistic than a happy snap. So here are a few of my shots from Saturday evening. Constructive criticism, comments, advice all very welcome. I want to learn!

Tammy Soulliere

sorry /hope the last photo is not a local lad…....
Holly Werner
Those kind of shots are always different. A more of an in the moment type of thing. Looks like you did a good job. Some interesting shots from great perspectives.
Paul Vanzella
Great shots – what a night!
James Price
Damn fine set of work girl!
You can trust in the fact that you really have this photography stuff down to a fine art. Especially when you’re shooting off the cuff so to speak. Given the lighting situation at these events, you’re final pieces are really spectacular!!
Sherriff
The Bikes rule forevs.
Good work chief.
Adrian Carmody
Love… love LOVE the legs photo, as well as Matt on the ground
I was so drained the next day from really focusing on what to shoot. It was a huge night, with stuff everywhere to shoot…. to find those special little moments in all that chaos was a damn fine effort.
The Blow Waves will be playing again soon… so get your rest :)
Faizan Qureshi
I love the photo that only shows the legs… sooo cool! Looks like a great night. :)
bribiedamo
what a great series of shots…....no wonder your tired….....timing is so much the essence….....cool work
Lisa Defazio
These are cool, next time though Jo….I want to go.
Trevor Patters...
They look good to me Jo. I’ve done a few of these sorts of gigs in my time and the trick is always to try and capture the ambiance of the event, you seem to have that pretty much nailed here… so… good job!
skunk
Good first effort, Jo! I particularly like the 3 above the ‘crotch shot’ and the girls leg one, minus the rubbish. They look great. You should be proud of yourself :)
Murray Newham
this is freaken awesome
Helen McLean
You have some very creative shots there Jo – lighting looks as though it was a challenge (did you have your camera ISO set as high as it could go?). Love the last shot!
Jo O'Brien
alas the rubbish was part of the act otherwise I’d have been brazen and gone up and flicked it away.
Adrian Carmody
I just went through mine again… I only have 3 photos of you taking those photos
I am very, very disappointed in myself. I didn’t catch ANY of the funny faces you would have made getting the shots :(
GrymmSong
These are beautiful pictures!! I love the crotch shot!! LOL
Jason Moses
Sexy ladies and great shots. I love the noise. For someone new to it, you’ve done pretty well. =)
Agreed, the close-up tackle box is cool.
bellmusker
Oh I LOVE the legs together at the knees…...fabulous! As is the one of the guy crashed out on the floor; have had my head on an angle for a few minutes now, trying to imagine the scenario. I like these very much!
Boadicea
I think you captured the essence of a great night. At least enough to make me wish I’d been there.
Danielle Prowse
Awesome shots Jo, I love them all, they all really tell a story!! I was asked to shoot Big Day Out yesterday in Perth, but I said no as it was too hot and im over shooting it (been doing it for quite a few years now!!)
Mundy Hackett
cool work Jo, always fresh and exciting!
Tony Elliott
The shot of the legs and gold shoes tells a wonderful story.
I have about as much experience with a camera and would never dare offer advice to someone clicking off the quality you have displayed in your portfolio.
I would like to direct you to a friend though. He has experience photographing gigs and may be someone worth peeking at…

Your work really is wonderful Jo.
Tony Elliott
That was supposed to read:
”...about as much experience with a camera as a squirrel”. I guess my brain works quicker than my fingers. lol.
Steven Lippis
Event photography is one of my favourite things, I think because it feels like there’s a goal, plus like a wedding, no second chances, you sink or swim. It feels good to be challenged like that, and it looks like you had a real challenge with the lighting too! 6th shot down is the winner for me, some great shots!
Jo O'Brien
Oh shit yeah. The lighting was either bright red or bright green. There were these horrible blown out highlights even to the naked eye. Yuck.
Cathleen Taraw...
You’ve nailed it.
Jane Keats
Hey, great read and love the shots you came up with. Do you mind if I post a link from Showtime – Celebrate! forums? (We’re thinking about a name change after Jason’s article on the “Selling” account)
Lara Luz
you porb don’t remember this but I was the girl with the video camera that night. how funny I only came across this just now! My feet are sitting behind Adrian in the photo of him taking a photo.
Their next midsummer event CIRCUS! CIRCUS! is must see. tickets selling fast though.
