nude and nerves
It’s been a long time since my heart thumped with nervousness. But uploading this make me feel so vulnerable. It’s been a long time since I’ve drawn anything, and I’ve never been particularly skilled at it. Rather, it’s something I enjoy and like to do in private, preferable under the bed covers with a torch. Last year I did some life drawing classes and just the idea of people being able to see over my shoulder was enough for me to stop.
This is a short sketch done in about 10 minutes. I was trying to avoid looking at the paper and just focus my eyes on the subject. When I draw, I don’t like to take my pen off the page, feeling like if I do, I might forget my train of thought and stuff it all up.
So anyway, I promised myself that this year I’d start showing people the stuff I am afraid of. To say anything less than “I’m shitting myself” wouldn’t do it justice.

....it’s great Jo…i love how you’ve repeated the figure, it gives movement and lends grace to the work…i also appreciate your vulnerability and the additional details on the second figure, the head is truly beautiful also, this is an excellent piece for all your fears

Really love the whole concept of showing the things we are normally afraid to show others.
I think this is wonderful.
Jack McCabe
I’ve done a considerable amount of life drawing, you have a nice loose style. The more you do it the better you get… it’s all about doing it!
Kudos!

What
! Seriously Jo – is there anything you can’t do…. love you attitude to the task and the results speak for themselves, almost an inner conncetion with the subject transferred to the medium of paper… LOVE YOUR LINE WORK!
Jane Keats
Geez, this is great, seriously! I have the same affliction as you, lol. Good on ya for getting over it enough to post this.
DeviousLili
Breathe, sweetheart. *in-out-in- no, that’s not a chicken…
Beautiful work. The lines are fab! If you’ve done this without looking down and merely “thinking” it to the page, you’re a natural!!
You are so brave. It takes such inner strength to even Admit a weakness or a fear so debilitating. To turn your head on the fear, force past it while shaking in your shoes, and still maintain a half-smile through gritted teeth…
Marvelous. *applause!
Paul McClintock
It’s funny how people always underestimate their own skills.
Sorina Williams
I think it’s a great drawing!!! Good on you for uploading!

nice. i lost my tries when my comp. erased, the last few times. suddenly i miss them more than before. i too don’t lift the pen from the page. I only had the comp. to do it. awkward. but even that one gets used to. like some of them better than better ones i saw. there’s each of many things we (a)ought/should be able to do \ get done, to some degree, even as a getting to know me exercise even as dancing, acting, cooking, craft, work, painting, painting, gardening, making love, writing poetry, letters, on the board, wall, doing pastiche, flower arranging, typing, learning braille, sign-language, communicating with flags, lights, dots & dash, cryptic crosswords (the only time you know your answer is right!) God! I go on. Do love your sketching. Must start again! Thanks!

good stuff always happens when you step outside of your comfort zone. Of course, a little embarrassment often precedes the good stuff. lol.
line drawings are my favourite type of sketching.
Virginia McGowan

Jason Moses
Jo, stop shitting yourself. One can tell a lot in the lines and, though some of yours are noticeably tentative, your observation skills are great and the right-side profile has a beautiful flow to it. Keep it up.
Firedrake
Nice loose lines, and I really like that you have repeated the figure, it’s like capturing two instances in the one ‘frame’ which gives it movement.
PJ Ryan
I love the movement in this .. it’s as if she’s turning to walk away … well done Jo x
WendyJC
i dont understand why you would be afraid with such talent Jo,
beautiful artistic curves, flow and emotion, brings thoughts of Norman Lindsay gardens
and beautiful statues to mind.
Holly Ringland
hey lovely lady… your nerves were unfounded at the table on sunday… for this is full of abstract and absolute beauty.
bellmusker
I’m with Holly…..your talents are so prolific that to admit there’s an area where you’re nervous, makes me admire your resolution to explore this all the more. And it’s still ten times better than I could manage… can we see any more?!
lostboy13
this isn`t supposed to be abstract is it?
these people are very nice but not helping at all.
use pencil and an eraser…you can draw ten lines and erase 9 of them…keep the one that works.
look at what your doing…you have to.
good on you for being brave though..x

Kedves Művésznő!
Nagyon örülök, hogy vannak még szabadkézi rajzok és alkotók, és mernek, tudnak embert
ábrázolni, gratulálok!
Ráró.
