Gulls and people having an evening stroll on the cool evening autumn night.
Sauble Beach was voted the “Number One Beach in Ontraio” by the Toronto Star readers and “One of Canada’s Top 10 Beaches” by readers of Maclean’s Magazine. Sauble Beach is located on the shores of Lake Huron apx three hours north of Toronto. The area is a sun bathers haven, with visitors traveling from far and wide to soak up the sun along Lake Hurons sunny coastline. The sand dunes we see today are part of a diverse ecosystem that has eveolved over thousands of years. Sauble Beach is an exceptional family destination. A unique phenomenon of sandbar deposits stretching out along the Lake Huron shore keep the beach very warm and shallow, making the beach safe for young children.
The area was called “La Riviere au Sauble” meaning river to the sand by French explorers for the sandy sable river that empties into the lake at Sauble Falls. The area was a meeting place for native chiefs and was the scene of many battles between warring Indian tribes. Early development consisted of several buildings including a blacksmith shop, sawmill, and general store. Most of the development in the area today is a result of an ever expanding tourist trade that began in the early part of the twentieth century.
Sauble Beach is over seven miles long, the second longest fresh water beach in the world after Wasaga Beach. Windsurfing, sailing and kite boarding are also popular pastimes. The wind and wave conditions on the lake around Sauble Beach are perfect for these activities. – ref: http://www.soto.on.ca/lake_huron_and_georgian_b...
