A difficult bird to capture… with their spectacular eyesight and natural fear of man, the Wedge-tailed Eagle is Australia’s largest bird of prey with a wing span up to 2.5 metres, an impressive sight in the wild. Their preferred diet is rabbits but they will take small kangaroos and wallabies as well as carrion and other birds. Greenethorpe Central West NSW Australia.
Canon 40d, Sigma 50-500mm.

I love photography and especially bird photography which is one of the most challenging and beautiful of subjects. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I had taking them.

Wow Phillip, what an awesome capture!

  • Thanks Tarnya… I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw this one sitting in a tree beside the highway this morning… a quick u-turn and sneak up… and voila!

This is magnificent Phillip! I really like the balance of the bird and the tree – somehow makes it even more real. Perhaps he has just taken off.

  • Thanks Christina… exactly right, he was trying to get away from me.
