Its such a tough life for many people in North Vietnam but I was impressed with the way older people were still an active part of their community – yes life is tough but I wondered if they experienced the loneliness of some of our older people.

great capture and nice story – i think life for these people is very hard – but in my travels i have seen different way grandmothers are regarded in different communities. In india i think older women are generally disregarded – but in communities such as vietnam, china etc i think there is definately a better sense of the need for extended families and the important role each person plays – i am a grandmother and my daughter would not be able to do the things she does without my help and it looks as though this grandmother is just as important to her family – so i say ‘hooray for the grandmothers!!

Heartily agree Rochelle – having a role to play in society equates to self respect so I agree its great
