In a word, Wow…. Glad to see this on the homepage.
Triple amazing! What an experience!
Breath-taking! Do I see correctly? Is the canoe occupant playing a flute? That would explain the presence of the whale; who wouldn’t enjoy an open-air concert played just for them? He/she knows enough not to get too close to the vessel. Maybe the song is “Don’t Rock the Boat!” I wish I could have been there!
very cool capture!
were you in a helicopter when you took this?
I was on the Hwy101 bridge that goes over the Klamath River there. This whale hung out there for two weeks basically circling. No one knows if it was eluding predators and the mouth or if it was just confused. It came up river with it’s baby, which left after a few days, and remained until it died. This hippie was playing her some flute music.
She almost showered him with her tale, it was kind of a wave ;)
It’s surreal really this moment captured. Great timing . Sad ending though . Hope the baby made it .
