Artist's Description

“How can we dance when our earth is turning?
How do we sleep while our beds are burning?
The time has come
To say fair’s fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share…”
(Lyrics from the Midnight Oil song, Beds Are Burning)

… so what exactly are we doing to ourselves, Peter?
When will we start asking for the rent?

This is what we have now…
This is a shot from our road, just up from our house. The towers you can see are the cooling towers from the Stanwell Power Station, a coal-burning station just up the road. Power lines and huge rigging towers span the horizon in almost every direction. Up to 20 coal trains a day travel past within a few hundred metres of our front door…

Co-incidentally, there is also a much higher rate of asthma and childhood bronchial conditions in this area (I know that MINE has been worse since we’ve lived here)… but they say that our decline in health is NOT connected to the burning of coal.

Well, that makes me feel MUCH better… thanks so much for the lights and the microwave, guys…
