… or… What Was That?
… or… Too Late
… or… Winter’s Coming
I had a very hard time naming this piece. It’s a personal protest at our greed, our stupidity and our ignorance, when it comes to the world we live in and the way we choose to power it. As a mother, a grandmother, a wife, an aunt, a sister, a friend… and as a woman… the rate at which we’re destroying our world shocks and worries me. I wonder what (if anything) our children and grandchildren will be left with after we’re gone. Will we steal all their wealth so that we can show others that we own things that we don’t even need? Will we destroy their world in our efforts to make ourselves fat, and hand them an empty husk when we have nothing else left? Will there be enough food to eat?… enough air to breathe?…
I hope so…
I hope our children don’t become the waste… or the sea, or the birds. It makes me sad that many species are already extinct because of our own actions. I hope we stop and realise what we’re doing before it’s our children who suffer.
Our environment needs us to make a change from our dependence on coal, fossil fuels and nuclear power. We have the technology to stop pouring waste into our atmosphere. There are simple and safe methods to power our world. We don’t need to sacrifice luxuries, we just need to buy smarter. We don’t need to impede progress… we need to progress on to the next stage of technological development. We can’t just turn a blind eye anymore. We can change…. we can progress past the technologies that give us an incentive to rape and destroy our home…. and place our children in the path of danger.
We could make a difference if we all tried… if we all cared.
