I just want to say as an Australian and a Victorian, I am so touched by all of those here on Red Bubble who have donated designs and profits to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. I was not in the are of the fires, nor do I know anyone there who has suffered, but as a whole, Victorians are suffering this tragedy together and together, with help from people from all over the world from all walks of life, we will pull through.
Numerous things can be said about the Australian spirit, and to an extent, all people who visit this wonderous country will see a small part of it or experience the unity of a band of Aussies, travelling overseas. But this is something all together different. It is a whole country giving what they can to help their neighbour, their mate and their fellow Australians. As of this morning over $70 million dollars had been raised with that number set to increase.
Being in Victoria, I try to do what I can to help. I have donated some of my own money, I have volunteered my home and time to shelter any temporarily homeless cats, I have taken colouring books, reading books, pencil and textas into work to be donated to help keep children occupied and give them something normal to do and we have bought dog, cat and bird food to help ease the stress on our four legged and feathered friends.
There was a wonderful story that came out just after the bush fires had ravaged Kinglake of a man who was trying to save his horse but the fire came upon his property so fast he thought that he and his horse, whom he treasured, were doomed. In the end, the man survived after his horse bumped him into a creek where he was able to stay wet and survive the rush. His horse also survived. The horse was sired by Jeune, one of our greatest Melbourne Cup winners.
Once again, that you so much, all of you, all around the world for your support and prayers in our time of need.
