Harbour SVITZER tugs in a Row - Newcastle Harbour NSW Australia by

Four Newcastle Tugs returning after escorting a fully lady Cape Class coal export ship out of the harbour. From the shoreline the job appears routine and simple but a lot of skill and experience is required to manoeuvre these large cargo ships in the narrow waterways of Newcastle Harbour.

The pilot helicopter in the sky above the tugs is also returning to base. Green activist groups are attempting to stop coal exports due to emissions, global warming and climate change.

This image won an award in a photographic competition.

Nicely timed and caught! Those clouds look great as a backdrop.

  • James, appreciate your comment…these guys do an excellent job in assisting with ship movements in and out of Newcatle Harbour.

    Congratulations – 23rd March, 2013 – Shirley, Jean & Rene

  • Eds Mum, appreciate the feature, this particular shot recently won an award in a competition where the judge particularly liked the helicopter in the sky. Also, this and a couple of other shots resulted in an invitation to actually go on board a tug and photograph them in action close up in Newcastle Harbour.
    Cheers,
    Phil W.
