Queen Lyalynne (iphone case art) by

Queen Lyalynne by Philomena Primrose.
This collage/pen & ink artwork specifically made for the iphone case.

“Little Seaweed Starwort stared at the strange room she’d come to. Behind her was the door she had entered through. Spiderwart Harland was sitting in that doorway lazily cleaning his one remaining feline ear. This kind of stuff didn’t get his fur in a fluff, as Seaweed’s mother liked to say.

“Before Seaweed there were four doorways that presumably led onto four different starting points in the maze. She’d been cautioned to know that one of these doors would put her on a path that led nowhere, while another path would take her directly to the other end. The other two doors simply led onto paths of hit or miss. The whole thing was hard for Seaweed to wrap her little girl’s mind around. All she could recognize was the four elaborate masks -one hung on each door.

“So Seaweed took a step back and tried to remember the nighttime fairy tales her grandmother once read her that pertained to the four masks she was looking at. Each mask represented a queen of the labyrinth. They were organized directionally -the East, the West, the South, and finally the North. Each queen had her own quirks, her own particular ideas of how the world should be organized. Thinking of the perspective doorways from the viewpoint of the queen in question, Seaweed was able to gauge their directions a little better.

“So Seaweed turned and looked upon the mask that represented Queen Lyalynne, ruler of the West of the Labyrinth. This was her starting point…”
