The Child Within Me

Crouched in the corner of my heart.
Tears well up in her eyes as she comes into the light.
Begging for a crumb, Just a taste of love.
Instead your silence cuts deep.
Like a slap in the face.
Big green eyes look away.
weeping silently within me, arms wrapped tightly around herself.
suffocating on the knot that has formed in her throat.
Alone and rejected she begins to rock back and forth.
she swallows her pain silently in the dark.
you can’t see her there…whimpering and shaken.
when you look deep within my eyes, I will cast my gaze downward.
For You might catch a glimpse of her if I stare too long.
Too afraid to trust …
She resides … forever tucked away,
deep within my soul.
