The Splendor of Those Before

The Splendor of Those Before belongs to the following groups:

AFRICAN ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY, African-American Experience and All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical

My warm brown beautiful skin
has roots with ties to Africa,
the strongness of my hands and back
are of my ancestor’s replica

With trauma endured and oppressions sustained
but trust
they kept in God,
for the love of the Master and grace of His will
is truth and never facade

For freedom they marched
in non-violent protest
their heads they always held high,
Not hoses or disparaging names
resulted aggressive reply

The legacy of the foundation established
I’ll forever respect and marvel,
to truly stand firm and live out the cause
are actions partaken to rival

I’ll always stand tall
with class and pride
in conduct, integrity reigns,
the confidence in the stride of my walk
forever, I pledge to maintain

Dignity and honor
exudes from my being
that no man can put asunder,
whether I’m proud of who I am
I leave no need to wonder

My warm brown beautiful skin
represent my ties to greatness,
I’ll never forget the platform they laid
so at peace, their souls can rest
