I was inspired by the work of PFrogg and his beautiful work HOUSE ON THE HILL

Silhouetted by the setting sun
Stand the remnants of what
I have become
My windows black holes that
Once contained love and light
My doors hanging on hinges
That have rusted and let go
From my frame
I am now a haven for critters
Of the night
And scavengers of the day
My sagging porch that once
Supported rocking chairs
Swaying happily to and fro
Now lean the way of desolate
And ravaged by the elements and
Ever encroaching time
Here I stand defenseless
Lost in abandonment by those
That filled my rooms with laughter
And love
Memories are all that I have left
Memories of happier times
When wild roses bloomed around
Me
Their fragrance lending a lovely
Headiness to each summer day
In the fall the padding of tiny feet
Padding to the door
Shouting trick or treat
In winter, the snow falling white
And softly enclosing me within
With a crackling fireplace
Marshmallows roasting on my fire
And the ever present feeling of
Love and family
In the spring the world renewed
Bringing hope for continuation
Many seasons have come and gone
And still I cling to hope
I keep watching from my stationary
Post
Waiting for another family to want
Me
To rejuvenate me with new timbers
New floors, new windows
And that feeling of belonging
How I long to once again belong
So I wait but my time is fast losing
Ground
As each day brings me closer to
Total collapse
I shudder when I think of myself
Laying in a pile upon the earth
On which I stand
I remain ever vigilant for that
Someone to see me as I used
To be
And utter the words there are
Still good bones here, we can
Renovate this beautiful old relic
Relic is what I am but oh those
Words would go singing through
My empty rooms
Would again fill each corner with laughter
and love
Oh to be reborn
So patience must be mine
As I stand waiting.
