The Red Mat - Self with Model
This is a small watercolour self portrait ( 20 cm x 30 cm ) on 190lb Fabriano paper, and I’ve used Winsor and Newton watercolours and Numbers 3, 4, and 6 Sables and a Number 4 Sable Rigger and 00 Sable for the fine lines. It could just as easily have been called the Black Beret, as I’d just bought the damn thing, and thought it made me look ‘arty’, but it is totally useless in strong winds. The painting is not very original, but was fun to do, and is mostly about my thoughts on how painting someone is often a good way to get into their pants, which is here totally unnecessary as nobody seems to be wearing any! I suppose there is a deeper meaning, as the little bird that often crops up in my paintings does represent the Godhead, and all things mostly good, though he can be a tricky little devil. The rather phallic painting on the wall actually exists, though it could be seen as a TV set showing porn, which is something I don’t have, and it would be extremely bad taste to do. I do have a TV, but not the other. Ramble Ramble. All I can do is repeat myself, and admit I had a lot of fun with the painting, and some of the more obscure symbolism. Thanks for looking.

So interesting- the art and your commentary. Love your strong straight stance, the black shadow held back by your clear presence of yellow. Your reaching arm stretches the out the darkness, you capture the “bird”. Playful movement, lyrical dance- this is a little gem.
