Arrowtown is a historic gold mining town in the South Island of New Zealand.

Hey Peter, I saw this shot when I was looking through photos for Arrowtown, after I came home from my NZ trip. Can’t remember where I found it, prolly flickr or similar. Made me wish I’d looked around a little harder when I’d been there. This is a wonderful shot, the backdrop of those autumn colours adds the icing on the cake. I know I’ll be seeking this out when I go back…..cos I know I will return :)

Make sure you return during the Arrowtown Autumn Festival. There’s loads of activities and exhibitions, plus of course, the wonderful autumn colours.

Great work Peter I love those Autumn colours,we are planing to visit NZ next Autumn in early April but not sure if this would be the right time to snap the Autumn colours ? in what month is the Festival ??

Arrowtown Autumn festival for 2008 is between Friday 25th April till Sunday 4th May.
Obviously the peak Autumn colours depend on the season, but generally you’ll find that the colours are pretty much at the peak at some stage of the festival. Probably slightly earlier than later is a good choice, but you’ll find that the autumn leaves are quite staged and only really finish very late in May.
