New peice of photography kit...
Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a boat. The most expensive bit o kit and it doesn’t fit in the camera bag, lol!!
It’s a Savage Avalon, centre console, 4.8m long, 2.41m wide, and has a Johnson 70hp outboard. I bought it because you have clear all around views from the deck, and it’s a walk around deck. It will allow me to get some better angles, not only at sea, but in lakes and rivers…

The town is off the tourist track, exists to service the oil and logging industries.
Unfortuneately, my working hours weren’t condusive to photography, as we headed out to the ship very early, and came back after dark.

Tommorrow I head off to Malaysia, flying out of Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur, overnighting there, and then flying to Kuching, and then to a one horse logging and oil town called Bintulu.
Bintulu is on the northern side of Borneo, in the Malay state of Sarawak. This should make for some interesting photos I hope, but from what I’ve read of the place there’s not much there.

I’ve just bought some interesting bits of camera gear.
A dedicated flash unit by Pentax (AF-540 fgz) for nearly half it’s retail value from ebay. The only drawback is that the manual is in chinese. But the Pentax web site had the english version. A 75-310mm telephoto zoom lens by Tamron, also for cheap frm ebay, and an unusual bit of photo kit, a dinghy.

Home for Xmas
Just arrived home from WA, after a fairly non eventful swing. The weather was hot , humid and fly blown, as is typical in the region at this time of year.
The rig is being moved over my leave period to the continental shelf NW of Barrow Is, and next time back, I’ll be joining the Nor Sun, the vesssel pictured under the title “Our Sister Ship”.
Our whole crew is being transferred to this ship …

Up the Shops
Took the Pentax Ist Dl to Ted’s Camera House and had it sent off for sensor cleaning. There is a mark that comes out on all my photos taken on that camera, that is always in the same position, and has to be photoshopped to get rid of the mark. I use the healing brush for that in Photoshop elements 5.
I also am having a photo enlarged which is the whale waving one. I’ll let you know how I go.
