I am a seafarer by trade, and am currently working in the offshore oil industry on board a new vessel called the OMS Terra Nova. I’m flying out to a place called Bintulu in the Malay state of Sarawak on the Island of Borneo to join the vessel. Should get some interesting photos.
I have been at sea 18 years in the Merchant Navy, and 4 years in the Royal Australian Navy.
I have travelled around the world including Antarctica, with the exceptions of Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Most of my work has been around the Australian coast, and SE Asia.
I discovered photography in the days of film, in the late 80’s. Up till then I was a pencil artist. I gave up art and photography not long after I remarried, and became quite unhappy. Anyway, I gave her the punt, and have taken my arts back up and am as happy as a pig in a strawberry patch. Now I have gone down the digital road, and I think it’s a marvellous medium. One major thing I have learnt, is from now on, shoot in raw format, then post process on the computer to get the larger files.
I own two cameras, a Pentax Ist DL, and a Pentax K100D, my lenses include an 18 to 50mm zoom and a 70 to 210mm zoom both are by Tamron. I also hace a 500mm mirror lens and image doubler I picked up on ebay.
I also own a Sony WSC 55 pocket digital, which is handy on the motorbike and when I’m working.
I live in Melbourne Victoria, in the seaside suburb of Frankston.
