Turimetta Tunnel
According to this image’s EXIF, it is the 15,000th image I have taken with the Canon 5D Mark II. I love my Canon 5D Mark II. I still love my Canon EOS 10D, but my Canon 5D Mark II is my BFF. Once again I am enjoying the colour enrichness provided by using the x400 9-stop filter, aka the Black Glass on the awesome EF 24-70 f2.8L Zoom Lens, this time at 48mm. The low ISO 50 helps dramatically in achieving length of exposure, this one over 20 seconds at f10. As I am want to do, I shot this as a single RAW file, and cropped and sharpened it. The image was shot at Turimetta Beach, my new best beach friend, around noon on a bright and clear winter’s day in August 2009. Best viewed large Did I mention I love my Canon EOS 5D Mark II?

I understand totally what you’re saying about your BFF, as I too am enjoying my new BFF! lol! These latest shots of yours at Turimetta Beach (where do you find these names, I never seem to notice what beaches are called…) are simply beautiful. The colours, so rich, and the effect of the Black Glass creates such a misty painterly effect that lends itself well to beach landscape photography.
Peter Hill replied
How’s that 10-20 going? I found this place basically from boredom – walking around the headland at low tide, THEN I did my research. I had never heard of this beach either and I think the locals prefer it that way! I agree on the BG – a really long exposure gives water pouring off rocks a real body to it.
Wendi Donaldson
Gorgeous!!! 15,000 shots….well you know what they say about practise!!
Truly a beautiful image, Peter….really love the blues and greens – those rocks are fabulous – and of course, thanks to your expertise, they’ve been captured perfectly. Well done!

Peter this image has a wonderfully primitive feeling… sort of a real life Jurassic Park I’d say. The more I hear and see about the 9-stop ND filter the more I want one for my Nikon. Great composition too…
Peter Hill replied
Thanks very much Jim, I think your analogy is quite apt!
Rosalie Dale IPA
You’ve lost me on all the technical stuff Peter but this really has the ‘wow’ factor – so vibrant, clean, and seductive.

George Swann
Excellent shot Peter, may I ask which brand and model of camera you used for this lovely Image!
Peter Hill replied
Thanks George. Sorry, but that information is confidential, available only to those who scroll to the Description. However, since you are very kind in your feedback I will give you a hint: 5dmk2. Unfortunately the lens is currently out of action, having fallen in the line of duty onto rocks at Crescent Head earlier this month, along with the camera, which suffered a cracked head but is still very much alive and kicking butt.
Magee
When you find out George, could you let me know too. I’d love to have the equipment capable of producing such a first-class image, not to mention the brains to make it happen. ;-)
Peter Hill replied
Hello Magee. Thanks for the feedback, please see my reply to George.
You upgraded from a P&S to a DSLR [thankfully a Canon and not a Nikoff]. This alone means you have the sufficient quantity of brains to take that extra step – filters. They are easy to use and will even out the light exposure for your seascapes. go for it.
Andrea Rapisarda
faantastic shot!
