Stroller

Stroller was shot on the footbridge in Beecroft over the M2 Motorway in Sydney, Australia. Apart from the selective colouring (the yellow is original) and some cropping, the image is basically as is.

Shot using a Canon EOS 10D with EF 70-300mm DO IS zoom lens at 70mm, ISO 100, 2 secs at f4.5

Cool image!!! I have to agree with Irene a bit though, it’s a little creepy, simply beacause the figure seems a little ghostly…..

  • Peter Hill replied

Thanks! Yes, not sure why her head didn’t appear!

  • Celia Coulter

    Celia Coulter

I don’t find this creepy at all. The timelapse effect on the figure while the environment remains the same around them suggests how impermament and fragile we human beings are.

For me this is a thoughtful and melancholic image. Beautiful

  • Peter Hill replied

thank you Celia – for the non-scary comment.

I don’t know any guy that carries a yellow umbrella but hey, each to there own. Nice work, photo could be mistaken for a composite, but it’s not, which makes it even more impressive .

  • Peter Hill replied

thanks champ. Don’t worry – it was a female carrying HER umbrella :) And she can vouch for the single shot. Interestingly, this bridge is as boring as bat poo in the daylight as a subject.

  • ALittleBitofRnR

    ALittleBitofRnR

love it. i think a lot of boring places by day have so much more character by night, especially that creepy character. the creepiness of night makes something interesting out of what would be otherwise boring .

  • Peter Hill replied

you got it Richard! just add a bit of drizzle and you’re away

  • Rosemary Scott

    Rosemary Scott

I love this one Peter…. I love the movement & the selective colouring is inspired… well done.

  • Peter Hill replied

thanks Rosemary. It was all just spur of the moment stuff. Immediately prior to the shot my “model” had been holding her umbrella over my camera. The time delay started, she started walking.

Even without the figure and umbrella it’s a splendid image with very good perspective and a full range of tones but the inclusion of the figure adds a pleasing bit of motion blur and of course that selective colouring, an inspired touch, well done Peter,
    Regards, Rod.

  • Peter Hill replied

thanks Rod – that’s a great compliment and feedback!

Great capture. I like the atmosphere in this shot. The subject almost looks superimposed, but I’m sure you shot this with a very long exposure. Nice work!

thanks Jeff! From memory (oops) it was about 3 seconds.

  • Peter Hill replied

Hi Jeff, I’ve now gone back and sourced the shooting details. It was 2 seconds.

  • Sharon Mau

    Sharon Mau

This is a captiving image filled with intrigue, with a fascinating perspective and mystery. The tonal quality is wonderful. It is most effective in selective colouring with the splash of yellow drawing the eye directly into the grid as a wonderful point of interest using the rule of thirds.

Congratulations on your feature in Dimensions
