Thank you Dave. It’s a revelation when you hold the lens at full zoom with the moon in the dead centre and the bloody lens is bobbing up and down like a monk on a pogo stick and you half-press the shutter to auto focus and wow the IS function kicks in and wallah the moon sits bloody still for you !!

Sounds like a lot less hassle than playing “chase the Moon” with a camera on an undriven mount. ;)

I think the most impressive shot of the 4 is the bottom left one. It’s amazing how well Theophilus and Cyrillus (if my orientation is correct) stand out.

Wow Peter….so you DID use the VR on the lens and you DIDN’T have a few drinks before the shoot! Great job, all kidding aside. And that moon looks SO much like the one we have here in the States….go figure, eh? LOL

All really fantastic shots… i like the top right, just a little difference in the colour, slightly warm, makes the rest of them feel really cool and far away. just love it!!

Hi Charleen. The clarity was achieved courtesy of the Image Stabilisation function on the lens. Unfortunately an IS zoom such as the Canon 70-300mm costs about a zillion times more than a “normal” lens. For example, the RRP of the Canon is AUS$2,349 (that’s about US$2,200). All shots in this project are being shot at ISO 100. The bottom right image was shot at 1/60th of a second at f/6.7. The bottom left image was shot at 1/30th of a second at f/5.6. Each night I’ve shot about 30 images at various settings, choosing the best one to use. More info can be read at my Journal entry I’m Mooning You. Ciao

VR? VR? VR? Oh yes, I forgot, you use a Nikon. Oh well … All kidding aside, it’s pretty cool that our moon looks so much like yours, except it’s an upside down version. Cheers mate.
