thanks Leslie – on the LCD screen of the 10D you can’t really tell if the shot turned out, not until I downloaded did a smile come across my dial :)

Hi Robert
The short answer to your question is: hell yeh!
Compare it with this image shot on 28 August 2007 during the lunar eclipse but using a normal 300mm lens and WITH a tripod:
And that was one of the better ones!
Here is a review of the Canon 70-300mm DO IS I just grabbed:
“Sporting a 3rd generation image stabilizer, the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens is designed to be handholdable at a shutter speed up to 3 f-stops slower than a non-stabilized lens at the same focal length. “Gyro sensors detect unwanted vibrations, triggering the corresponding movement of a correcting lens group perpendicular to the optical axis. This alters the light path, returning the image to its correct position on the sensor or film plane.” [Canon]Using the 1/(focal length) rule, this lens can be handheld at 300mm with a shutter speed of 1/45 of a second (of course, your mileage may vary). I am getting sharp handheld images consistently at 1/4 or 1/5 second shutter speeds at 70mm and at 1/25 second at 300mm on a full frame body.”
Of course, it comes with a hefty price tag. But hey, that’s what eBay’s for !! :)

Wow! I am really glad someone caught that moon! It was low on the horizon and looked amazing :)
wwROBERTLFOXcom, 5 months ago
Well, that pretty much makes what I’m using junk! Thanks for the info! It’s impressive!
Peter Hill in reply to AllyL’s comment, 5 months ago
Damn straight it was low – another few minutes and it was gone from my urban horizon!
Peter Hill in reply to wwROBERTLFOXcom’s comment, 5 months ago
Cool, but do check out eBay – gr8 bargains to be had compared to the RRP price list of canon. (Nikon also have IS lenses)
