Steel Rain
Zoom shot from Pyrmont Point Park in Sydney towards Anzac Bridge.
Look carefully at the lamp post ! (Larger view recommended).
The lines on the roof are actually lines and not shadows, but they match up with the steel cables which are several hundred metres behind the building.
Canon EOS 10D, EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Diffractive Optics Telephoto Zoom Lens with Image Stabiliser, at 300mm (my new woo hoo toy).
Untouched except for cropping, desaturation, sharpening.

Is that lamp post between two cables.. weird, seems to weave over and under.
Nice shot, very striking, the b/w is a nice choice.

very good shot, love the simplicity of it, but also the way the eye is drawn all over the picture.

Nice Peter! Like the opposing lines…and the light post is threaded ‘between’ cables…deseptive I’m sure.

All the lines: railing spindles, cables, and roof lines are all flowing to point in the lower left. Were the roof lines there or did you add them? Cool effect.

Top shot! That lamp looks like it’s between the cables! Superb abstract and graphic quality, well seen Peter!

Thanks everyone for your observations. I can tell you all that, apart from cropping, sharpening, and desatruating, the image is untouched. What you see is what is there, as shown in these 2 other shots. The first one you will see that, indeed, the lamp post is between the 2 cables. In fact, there are 7 lanes of traffic between the posts!
I luuurv my new toy!

Absolutely incredible. Your camera is amazing! I love how you were able to bring the shot up so close to create a completely new work of art. Fantastic
Peter Hill in reply to Leslie Hagen’s comment, 2 months ago
Thank you kindly Leslie. Yes, the camera’s pretty good, but it is 5 years old and shoots only at 6.2 megapixels (compared to, for example, the Fuji Finepix S1000fd I bought brand new the other day for $349 which shoots at 10 megapixels). It’s the lens that is making the difference, and I am still very much discovering it’s potential.

Great angularity and contrast with the roof sheeting. To this you can add a wonderful subtle tonality – magic stuff.

This image really has a lot going for it. Great concept for one, an excellent composition and I love the the way the house breaks the abstract pattern.
Enjoy your new toy. ;)

Hi Peter, thanks for the feedback. And yes, I am enjoying the new toy. It backs up as a piece of gym equipment, it’s so heavy!
