Thanks Jase. Getting soaked to the skin and walking for hours with my 2 boys was worth it photographically as well as something for the family to do!

Thank you eXposure – I shot this at a slow speed, half a second, to give it that misty effect, and used a tripod to keep the camera stable so the rest of the image stayed sharp.

Peter well done – not only the stunning photo, but for venturing down in that weather!!! I was up the top at McMahon’s Lookout the day before and it was saturatiing, and a whiteout! I am amazed at you being able to get this image under the conditions. A fav!!!

  • Peter Hill replied

Thanks Rosalie – we were there on Monday. And yes, total whiteout at the top, but deep down in the valley it was cool clear and crisp! Must admit thought to bribing my 13 yr old to hold the umbrella over me at times while I used the tripod !! :)

    I can’t stop looking at this :-) it’s superb!

  • Peter Hill replied

Welcome back! Apart from the picture picture aspect, Robert, what are the technical features drawing you back? I’d very much like to know, given I am also drawn back to your own waterfall images. I feel we have different eyes, but then again it may just be the completely different environments of the subjects.

  • Robert Hardy

    Robert Hardy

    Hi Peter,
I’m back again and loving the image! I like the timeless feel of it for starters, your choice of processing is spot on. The thing that makes it so viewable for me is the silky water draping the rocks. You’ve got the ammount of water just right and the shutter speed spot on. The whole image is in perfect balance. My eye starts at the misty forest at the top and follows every silky thread down to the final cascade then returns to the top to start again. I love strong graphic images and this hits my spot.

It’s always interesting to see how other photographers tackle familiar subjects, I’d love to see how you would capture my old favorite, Roseberry Topping for instance and I’d love to try my hand at Sylvia falls one day!
    Cheers
    Rob

  • Peter Hill replied

Thank you muchly for your thoughts Robert, and yes, it would be interesting to “swap” hemispheres !

  • Stuart Chapman

    Stuart Chapman

This image just appears huge and there is a real sense of scale in evidence. The lovely water movement is captured perfectly and even in the soft monotone looks lovely clean and fresh. The portrait view works so well and the numerous cascades throw your eyes all over the image never knowing what to concentrate on before moving on to the next one.

  • Peter Hill replied

I really appreciate your comments Stuart, especially as I am personally very pleased with this one. I now have it hanging in my office as a large framed print with white background. Can’t stop gazing at the many features, and it feels just as you have described it. Thanks
