Right on the southern end of the ranges surrounding Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges lies Rawnsley Bluff. Captured here in the early morning light.

Such an angry sky… I bet the sunset over the area is magnificent.

Thanks Elizabeth. The sunset never eventuated but in any case at sunset the whole mountain is in shadow so you don’t get those brilliant colours. Actually they only last for a very very short time at sunrise. 15 minutes and it is all over.

Wow, those are some colours on those bluffs. Looks like lava!
The whole image is stunning, a very rich field. With its contrast of pastoral foreground and fiery hills under a brooding sky, it reminds me of The Lord of the Rings..

Thanks armadillozenith. The cliffs change colour during the day but that bright red is only there for perhaps 10 minutes at sunrise. After that it starts turning grey.
