Day 326 of my ‘A Photo A Day’ project.

I never thought of a stinging nettle being beautiful until I took this photo. We have a few unwanted stinging nettles in our garden, a couple of which are by the edge of our pond. When I went on the stag do last Saturday, one of the things we did was a ‘food walk’. They told us about food you could find and eat in the wild. Stinging nettles were on the list, although the guide said that when they start to flower it’s too late, as you generally want the younger tops for making stinging nettle tea. Ever since being told this I have looked at the nettles in our garden and noticed how nearly all of them are flowering. Today it popped into my head that I could use the flowering tops for a photo subject. I’m really pleased how they came out, and even more pleased that such a common weed can look so amazing!
