Day 259 of my ‘A Photo A Day’ project.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I really do feel like I could write a thousand words about this picture. I have no idea where to start, or how to put it into words, but I have a million thoughts and explainations that I want to put across! I think I will start with the fact that this is the wall of my next door neighbours house. This wall is outside our landing window, and I look at it every morning shortly after waking up, and everytime I go down the stairs. I’ve never really thought much of it, afterall it’s just a brick wall right? When I went downstairs at about 10.30 this morning, I noticed how amazing the textures and lines looked… the sun was shining directly along the bricks, so was casting shadows on all the bumps and cracks, but illuminating them perfectly at the same time. I quickly grabbed my camera and took a few shots to capture this split second moment. When I uploaded the photo I couldn’t believe how great all the imperfections looked… missing mortar, chips and holes, bricks out of alignment. I think all of this gives, what is otherwise a flat brick wall, a great amount of depth and interest. The thing I love most about this shot is that it’s just a boring brick wall… something that is actually known for being incredibly boring. However, when you catch it at the exact right moment in time, no matter how brief, it can look completely unique and beautiful. The fact that I have seen this brick wall pretty much every day for the past 25 years, gives it even more beauty and meaning to me. No matter what you think you know, there’s always something beautiful to see if you open your eyes!

It really is just a split second moment when things like this happen. Usually one special time in the morning and one in the evening, where everything is illuminated just right. This is a really great photo. Love all the depth and everything. :)

  • Thank you so much! I’m really glad you commented on this one :) Sometimes the most amazing things can happen right under our noses when we least expect it! Thank you again for taking the time to comment on my work, I really appreciate it more than I can put into words!
