Sometimes you miss the beauty on your doorstep.

This is Angel Bay in North Wales. Today’s sunset was spectacular and the scramble over the cliffs to a precarious position was worth the effort.

As a child this was a place far from home (about 4 miles). Visiting was an adventure and a challenge, access to the beach is from the cliff only; requiring a precarious shuffle down steep paths. It was a place I visited rarely but never forgot.

As I grew the adolescent tales of teenage girls sunbathing in the secluded bay demanded my attention with the passion that only a teenager would have. Searching for beauty that had little to do with the scenary.

In my twenties, I bought a boat and suddenly was able to access this place from the sea. Picnics, skiing, fishing and the occasional sight of seals basking drew me back. A kiss on the rocks with a school yard crush I encountered years after my school days ended confirmed the fantasies from my teenage summers.

I return often now, it’s become a place of natural beauty. Still an adventure to scramble across the cliffs. The Sunny days are glorious but the darkness and wildness is equally stunning. The Weather comes in from here, you see on the horizon hope or dread for the next day.

Always different,
this place changes little,
time passes me by
I wander the world and on my return
it’s still there
holding the dreams of my youth.
