Patricia, you’ve done a wonderful job of capturing the essence of this flower! I’ve often thought I’d love to paint an agapanthus, but cowered at all the detail I thought I’d have to put in. But you had the courage to tackle it and you’ve created a beautiful piece of art! It’s lovely! Thank you.

Thank you so much for this comment. This was an earlier work in 2007, in my first term of watercolour. This medium new to me then and was in total experiment mode and found it interesting and facinating to see the colour disperse and follow the water on the paper.
For me it was very much as you have said capturing the essence of the flower and as agapanthus are very top heavy when in full bloom on what seems a very thin stalk, they very rarely stay still even in the slightest breeze.
To me, looked like a ‘firework burst’, this is what i wanted to achieve. A flower bursting into bloom with all the movement that entails.
Thank you for your comments, don’t shy away from painting what in my opinion is a most gorgeous flower… i hope you to have a go.
