The best of your three postings…in my opinion. This one has a more voyeuristic quality. The left hand is well caught. I can see the strength in her fingers.

  • Persimmon replied

Many thanks Phil for the your detailed comments!

  • raae

I really love this one! Its great how cropping out the face draws shifts the focus to the lines of the instrument… and i also like how the shape of the instrument mirrors the shape of her body. The veins in her wrist are a great contradiction to the overall strength of the image. Its beautiful!

i agree with the commenter who said that when you can’t see her face, you are more drawn to the elegance and style of the beautiful instrument. perfect shot.

  • James Birkbeck

    James Birkbeck

i like it. i don’t think i have ever actually seen a viola-da-gamba before. this might be the first time i am actually seeing one!

  • Persimmon replied

this one is my tenor….it is tuned sort of like a guitar but a bit different, so it’s gcfadg…. the bass is quite a bit bigger and tuned dgcead and I have an even bigger bass with an extra string adgcead. there are some famous Canadian viol players who visited here recently – Les Voix Humaines
