Place Of Origin: From Europe to Western China; many grow in the Balkan region of Southeastern Europe.
- In the 17th century hellebores were regarded as a suitable treatment for depression and insanity.
- The flower is used for winter decorations particularly in Scandinavia
- Some historians believe that Alexander the Great died because of a hellebore overdose, when he took it as medication.
