Botanical Name: Hydrangea
Common Name: Hydrangea, Hortensia
Place Of Origin: Japan
The name Hydrangea comes from the Greek hydor, meaning water, and angos, meaning jar or vessel.
In most species of Hydrangea the flowers are white, but in some species, they can be blue, red, pink, or purple. The exact color often depends upon the acidity or alkalinity of the soil. Acidic soils produce blue flowers, neutral soils produce pale cream petals, and alkaline soils result in pink or purple.
In the Language of Flowers Hydrangeas represent anything that’s sincerely heartfelt.
