10 out of 10! Great image – good reflections, and a fun topic. I love the way Cyril (the middle one) has his head in and out of the way in case Maurice clips it when he goes over the top!

  • pene replied

LOL… yep, he learnt the hard way… there was a most tragic accident earlier in the day:(

    (RIP George).

oh dear. I do like snails too. I feel very sorry for slugs as well – sort of itinerant snails – homeless…...

    Poor George’s funeral….

It was a tragic hurdles accident!

    i cant see any frogs…...................

Well, I figured that it’s called “leap frog” when children play it, so why not for snails ????

alas, poor george. I kinda knew him well…..

  • pene replied

Hmmm…. all very sad… a great loss to the snail sporting world.

his ‘partner’ of many months,Stella, was so upset she wouldn’t come out of her shell… just sat there blowing bubbles.

    all so very tragic!

    G’day Pene,

What an enjoyable, quirky photograph this is!
Great concept and arrangement and I applaud you for your snail training abilities.
While the central vertical composition works very well with this long format I do feel though that you have made it far too tight on our right. Remember that should this ever be mounted, matted and framed, the matt overlay will cut off a bit of the snail’s rear end.
A good exposure in equally good light, a sharp focus and wonderful natural colours make for a most pleasant image.
This work has impact due to its unique subject matter and the format, it holds the interest very well indeed and is well worth a return visit.

i never thought about it being too tight on the right! i will have a look and see it i can “re-frame” it – i’d hate to have his tail cut off !! LOL

LOL David – I was thinking how did you get them to pose? Did you shine their shells for the photo? And which one is Maurice???? Love this wonderful photo the silliness is creates in my head. . .

  • pene replied 26 days ago

:) it’s a trade secret so i can’t tell you anything about training snails…. but i can tell you that i didn’t shine their shells, just a little spray of water.
