The brim of his hat covered his eyes, his face half in shadow, a brooding menace hanging over him. The torch flickered and cast shadows in the area where he stood. It took all of his concentration to ensure he missed nothing scurrying in the corners. The attack could come from any direction. Any noise was suspicious and to be treated as a potential threat…
