Large dark blue “horsefly”.

Taken near a pool in Florida.

Canon 7D
50mm macro

PP- Lightroom & Photoshop ( removed color from everything other than the main subject)

Update: I figured this was a horse fly but was not sure, after some research i found out that it is a “Black Horse Fly”, or Tabanus atratus.

The Male drinks honeydew and nectar; while the female sucks blood from large mammals, especially cattle and horses.

My assumption is, that this is a male as it was located near some very sweet smelling flowers.

I have been an Art Director in the Video Games industry for almost 15 years. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s a lot more work than most people realize. The hours are long and the responsibilities are many. It has left little time or energy for some of my more time consuming creative endeavors, sculpture,3D Modelling, illustration and film making, especially when balancing a family.
