This is the engine compartment of the historic PD-DRESDEN. A German built steam powered paddle boat from 1926. Amazingly it had been in service till its modernization in 1993, when the twin piston 300hp steam plant was converted from coal /steam to gas/steam .

Wonderful work! So this is the original 1926 engine, which is still in use, but now using gas instead of the original coal to generate steam?
Yes Carl. Cleaner and more efficient. But still using the original engine. Only the boilers where changed.. It was a great ride..As we where traveling upstream , you could literally feel the individual piston strokes against the strong Elbe current trying to turn those huge paddle wheels.
