I was born and raised in Gedling in Nottingham,England. Apart from a 3 year stint in the Army and 6 years living in the Philippines, I’ve always lived in the Nottingham area and now live in Netherfield, Nottingham.
I developed an interest for nature photography in the mid 1980’s and won a national wildlife photography competition with a photo of a water vole in 1988. After a break from photography for about 16 years, I have recently returned.
Although I still take mainly wildlife photos, I have started to look at other forms of photography, abstracts being one of them. I would also like to start doing more portrait and people work, problem with that is family and friends become camera shy if you just mention the subject, never mind picking up the camera.
I believe that in wildlife photography, the welfare & interests of the subjects should have priority over any photo I might be able to get. I won’t cause them to become stressed out just to get the shot. And I believe everyone who wants to photograph wildlife, should follow the same sort of self-imposed rules. Wildlife should be observed and enjoyed, not exploited. Its a sad fact that there are nature photographers out there, a minority I’m glad to say, who only care about getting the shot.
At the moment I am shooting with a Canon EOS 30D, various lenses and one flashgun. Although I’m dreaming and drooling over the new EOS 7D and the EOS 5D mkII, but at present they are outside of my budget, so dream on.
