Artist's Description

This arched walkway is part of the Carthusian Monastery founded in 1363 by Giacomo Arcucci in Capri, Italy. It has a lovely series of compartments, gardens, and courtyard. through the years there was some tension between the monks and the local peasants, and in 1656 when the plague hit the island and nearby Naples, the monks walled themselves off form everyone, seen as the final insult. In retribution, people heaved the bodies of those who succumbed over the walls.
