Just up from the Ganges River in Varanasi, India, this young girl followed me for some distance in the midst of a gaggle of children, all begging. Throughout the entire walk, she spoke not a word, but smiled a child’s smile.

P.S. What a Pretty Little Girl! She has such a lovely smile, which you really captured well:-) I feel sad that she has to beg;maybe she could get sponsored ;I do that for a little girl in the Philippines & it’s Great knowing that I’m giving her a chance @ a future..!
robyleehow nice of you to get involved with helping another. Nice model for others to consider.
Such a beautiful smile, Phil – it would break my heart to see all the child beggars
shulieand they are everywhere, often holding a younger child or baby for enhanced sympathy…so sad, but seemingly necessary to survive in that India!
BRILLIANT ART WORK,CONGRATULACION ON YOUR FEATURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pepithank you for the kind words and for your support of my work. It means much to me!
Now, THAT is a winning smile, if there ever was one! Beautiful. I’m sure she is helping to feed her family. Over population, lack of education, and with little or no opportunity for self-improvement is a hard reality; one that few Americans, by comparrison, understand.
spot on, Pete!! As an untouchable caste member, she has virtually no access to education, or other benefits most societies in civilized places provide. Yet, the smile seems an indicator of her acceptance of it all….she has nothing to calibrate her situation against!
