In northern Thailand, near Chiang Mai, there are a number of hill tribes still living in the jungle off the land. This woman, in her 90s, is a member of the Padong community, and works every day to help the tribe survive, as does everyone in the compound.

Just a retired old guy who loves looking for an eclectic mix of subjects to photograph, from people, to places, to concepts, and enjoys all aspects of the hunt, the find, and the shot, plus dabbling in the post production.

“No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist”
Oscar Wilde

thanks so much gena. She was a delight in everyway. Her job was operating this large, heavy, primitive seed grinder where she had to step hard on one end of the log which then came down hard on a bowl with the seeds grinding them. wow!

This lovely woman’s face tells a million stories

  • loree,
she was a very hard worker in her village. She’s slight of built, but had a heavy, demanding job, and seemed happy with it all.

thanks so much for the honor of featuring this image. She loved her beads and kept fingering them as she worked.

WOW Phil….this is really impressive. In her 90’s and there is still an incredible light that shines in her eyes. A really fantastic and touching portrait. Fantastic. Kathy :)

  • thanks kathy, and if you could have seen her energy pounding on the huge log to crush seeds, it was impressive!
