After leaving Lima, Peru, and traveling to Cusco, we had lunch at the Wayra Ranch, and were treated to a terrific show of the equestrian talents of riders and Peruvian Paso horses. Instead of a trot, the Peruvian Paso performs an ambling four beat gait between the walk and the canter. It is a lateral gait, in that it has four equal beats and is performed laterally — left hind, left fore, right hind, right fore.

Thanks for such a super description. I wonder how they teach horses which foot to use – very clever to do so! A good shot of this event with lovely symmetry and it gives us in insight into other cultures.

Well done, Phil! I love their capes – or serapes, I assume.

and when they rode, or turned, they flared out like capes…really neat!
