These hippopotamus lolled lazily in the water in Kenya, Africa, and one lifted its head for this huge toothless yawn. Their latin scientific name is hippopotamus amphibius, and from the Greek, Hippo-Potamus means river horse.

True, but staying cool and sleeping in the rivers is what they do in the daytime. At night, they come out to graze!
petepretty much how it is….we did, however, see many of them mid-day lolling on banks in the sun. Look like huge pigs!

monniethey keep together in pods and we typically would see twenty or more, including babies lazing in waterways
