This lovely mural promotes the beauty of New Zealand, and the Maori name for it….Aotearoa. Variously, different legends exist describing the name. In one the word is broken down this way:
Ao- cloud, dawn, daytime, world

Tea- white, clear, or bright

Roa- long

Together the translation can be either “the land of the long white cloud” or
“Land of the abiding day” (longer daylight hours than the Polynesian Maori explorers knew)

Still another describes the Maori explorer Kupe’s canoe named Aotearoa which became the name for New Zealand.

Just a retired old guy who loves looking for an eclectic mix of subjects to photograph, from people, to places, to concepts, and enjoys all aspects of the hunt, the find, and the shot, plus dabbling in the post production.
