One of our friends owns a Tattoo and Body Piercing Shop. It is the most desired shop in town for Tattoo’s and Piercings. I was called one day and asked if I would come in to photograph a tattoo cover up session. I had a blast that day hanging out in the shop with every one. After about 6 hours of hard work, the first sitting was accomplished.
Besides the opportunity to be asked to photograph this Big Tattoo Cover up… My dream of getting the story behind the image came true. I have always dreamed of being able to photo journal life. My husband and I are really into Tattoo’s and this is where we get all of our art work done.
Shane House is the artist. He free hand drew the forever art that will cover the customers “Yosemite Sam” tattoo. The design is A Male Koi Fish swimming up stream; Shane has introduced the 4 elements of water, wind, air and Earth, as well as the symbols in Kanji for Family, Mother and Father.
This man (the customer) has seen some major struggles in his life. More than I could imagine. His wife had breast cancer two times. She lost her breast to cancer. She made the decision to have the surgery because if she didnt the cancer was bound to come back. Also, he and his wife were barely able to have the one daughter they did. After the birth of their daughter, and the cancer returned, not only did this outstanding and brave woman decided to have a double mastectomy, but she also chose to have a full hysterectomy to prevent any other chances for the cancer to return.
To have this honor and blessing to photograph the process of the cover up was enough for me, but there was more to the story than just photographing Shane’s wonderful ability to free hand draw a remarkable tattoo. There was a story behind the story and I am truly honored that I was allowed to be part of the entire day.
Thank You to WarmArt Tattoo and Body Piercing Owner Rod Kinney, and to Shane House, and to the customer and his wife and daughter for allowing me to be part of such an intimate moment of all your lives.
I can not wait for the final session when Shane finishes the Tattoo…..~!
