Artist's Description

This is a “Hummingbird Hawkmoth.”
“Hummingbird moths are insects from the Sphingidae family whose movements, eating habits and coloration are similar to those of a hummingbird. North America has 125 species of hummingbird moths. Though many species, known as sphinx or hawk moths, are active at night, some feed during the day. Hummingbird hawk moths (Macroglossum stellatarum) have a proboscis, a long needle-like mouth part that they unroll to feed on the nectar of a variety of flowering plants.” (http://www.ehow.com/info_8617389_hummingbird-ha...;) "Read more: Hummingbird Hawk Moth Facts | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/info_8617389_hummingbird-ha...;
