Lee Harvey Oswald Leading Penguin Babies in Song by

My adorable Lee again, this time another 12" doll custom-painted from what had been a VMGD (Vague Miltary Guy Doll). I don’t quite know WHAT is going on here, just that Lee is in some fun not-to-be determined place and he is upon his egg enthusiastically greeting, haling, or rejoicing with, a gaggle of flapping baby penguins. This was really just a tossed-together scene, I had spotted a penguin (just one!) at a Michael’s store, and KNEW I needed LOTS of ‘em for Lee – to endear him some more – and after hitting several stores I dumped them on the table, which had been dressed from a past photo op, and then stuck Lee and his egg in, and here we go. Perhaps he has just led them in joyful song, I am thinkin’ “Dites Moi” from the musical “South Pacific…”

My work is in a humorous, often satirical vein. I explore pop-culture icons intriguing me since childhood, from motion pictures to other obessions – cockroaches, toilets, the 1950’s, and, as of late, Lee Oswald. These are cathartically realized via paintings, video shorts, manipulated photographs, cut-and-paste montage, and hand-painted 12" dolls. I graduated with a BA in studio art, and paint sets for local community theater, and do the things you see here just for giggles.
