A Lee Harvey Oswald Doll - before and after: by

I unabashedly admit I think Lee-Harvey was a hottie, I don’t care what people say, and I love making dolls and videos and skits with my tasteful “re-invention” of him as Lee the Good Guy. But more of that later – this simply shows my favorite prototype for a foxy Lee at left, a “Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel from the motion picture ‘The Golden Compass,’” as he appears in the factory packaging. These were made by a doll company called Tonner, and when the movie tanked, they discontinued the doll in 2007, and he’s REALLY hard to afford now when he occasionally shows up on Ebay -but when I can score one, he immediately becomes a Lee. At right is the finished repaint, my first Lee, Lee-Harvey the Macho Pussycat.

My work is in a humorous, often satirical vein. I explore pop-culture icons intriguing me since childhood, from motion pictures to other obessions – cockroaches, toilets, the 1950’s, and, as of late, Lee Oswald. These are cathartically realized via paintings, video shorts, manipulated photographs, cut-and-paste montage, and hand-painted 12" dolls. I graduated with a BA in studio art, and paint sets for local community theater, and do the things you see here just for giggles.

OMG, of course…he does look a tad like Craig, I wondered how you pulled that off! I’ll keep my eye peeled for those in Goodwill. ;)
