Paula Rego on YouTube -(260711)- Biro pen/black ink by

I tried freezing a YouTube video; then, copied the still frame photograph of artist, Paula Rego.

I recall borrowing from Morley College library a ‘big’ book of drawings called, ‘Paul Rego, Complete Graphic Work.’

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Paula-Rego-Complete-Gra...

Wow, what a totally brilliant very highly ‘imaginative’, and, extremely, talented ‘realistic’ drawer/painter!

The kind of artwork, which once seen; then, you will never ever live to forget…?!

Each one of her ‘unique’ drawings/paintings/prints tells a whole entire story in itself.

Paul, i love this one your work unique, beautiful all love a fave Normaje

  • Thanks! ;-) For me, it’s a very hard battle to fight trying to get these things right; first, you think to yourself it’s too light, sketchy; then, you think, oh no, now it’s far too dark; or else, you think the head proportions are incorrect; she looks far too young…what about the wrinkles in the face/neck…but, I’m not good at doing wrinkles?! Or, should i add clothes or not…clothes are far too hard; and, what about shadows? Too, the hair…oh boy…what a total mess I made of that part?! The frozen photo on the other hand looked to me to be absolutely ‘perfect’. I will not even attempt to compare my work against it; all I can say is, I’m trying; and, honestly, that’s about it!

    Fantastic work Paul

  • Thanks, again! ;-) Paula Rego, draws amazingly well; capturing characters so strongly; and, also, her overall picture always seems to tell a whole entire story. I think, she works wonderfully well! Other female artists I like are Jenny Saville for sheer skill, and, understanding of the human body in great depth/and, Tracy Emin, mainly for her ability to shock.

you’ve captured a beautiful soul in this Paul!!

  • Thanks! ;-) My portrait doesn’t really look like her…?! But, I did it purely as an exercise in learning how to draw people portraits; the human head is by far my most fav. part of the human body that I wish to learn how to draw, properly; which, I must confess, that I’m still unable to do, yet. Even when I try drawing myself in the mirror…it still doesn’t quite work?! I need a lot more ‘practice’, I guess; and, who knows, possibly, some teaching, as well.

Paula Rego, is a very great ‘line’ artist/also, good at colouring, too; but, it is her linework that I do most deeply respect and admire. She is a supreme illustrator; where one artwork manages to tell a whole entire story. I need to work on learning how to do that; make one drawing tell a whole entire tale. Oh I forgot to add, she captures ‘character’ extremely well. Certainly, her work is well worthwhile checking out…
