Great work Paul, Hands, and feet Have always fascinated me.. love this.!!

  • Thanks! ;-) For me, in particular, the hands and feet of Christ has always deeply fascinated me; which is why I drew this really ‘quick’ sketches. Unfortunately though, I still have not managed to fully master understanding how to draw both hands/feet, yet. I say to myself I will go and practice drawing 1 million hands/feet (copying from ‘real life/photos/etc.); but, easy to say, maybe…much harder to actually do it?! After practicing drawing only 1 or 2; already, I find I’ve given up! Without sufficient patience it’s very difficult for me to learn, effectively. On top of this I suffer from ADD/Attention Deficit Disorder; so my attention refuses to stand ‘still’; instead, my mind wants to move on to tackle different subjects, constantly, all the time; so it’s never easy for me to stick with studying art; sooner or later, my mind will tend to wonder off…towards a different subject matter, instead. For me, the struggle to become an artist consists of very SLOW going…even after long years/nay, decades long…yet, I still remain an eternal wannabe. One day, though, I dream of creating a really good Jesus Christ on the Cross example drawing.

Sometimes, it’s the struggle, energy, and thoughts, that are involved in certain works, that I am drawn to. And that tell a deeper, ethereal story ? My Mum once told me that, a great many of the great artist of the world, where unable to draw feet and hands .. Which always seemed odd to me. As they are such integral, and most interesting features, to the human personality ..and anatomy ? This from one [self taught] wannabe. The joy is in the journey, not the masterpieces we hope one magic day, we will create. Never give up.
I liked your hands folder, in particular ! :-]

  • Thanks! ;-) Personally speaking, I find it really difficult to believe that truly great artists can’t draw hands/feed…?! But, I agree, that many artists can’t…; or, not so very well. As to me being ‘happy’ with the level of ability of my own artworks…frankly, I think, never! Because I always wish to improve…; and, therefore, can only see all of the mistakes; and, not the good parts. For example, I honestly don’t believe I’ve ever done a ‘right’ drawing/painting in all of my entire life; but, instead, there is always something wrong…some lines/colours/design…not quite correct. In fact, it’s kind of really weird when I think about it; because even drawing on the computer…which offers one multiple levels of Undo…I still can’t ever manage to get ‘one’ right…?! So, my own conclusion is…I just don’t have enough ‘talent’ to know how to achieve ‘perfection’. I honestly think it’s a case of either you have it; or else, you don’t! Though, again, rather oddly…I can both see and understand ‘perfection’ in other people’s artworks even instantly, right away; but, just never can see it in my own; I always feel the work could have been improved on if I did either this or that…
