Moored in the port of Sagres Portugal at the south west tip of Europe. A working replica of Magellan’s Victoria, the first ship to circumnavigate the globe. The Victoria, a Portuguese Carrack of 70 feet, 85 tons with a crew of 42, under the command of Ferdinand Magellan the Portuguese navigator, led a voyage of exploration financed by the king of Spain. The expedition consisting of 5 ships with 265 crew set sail in 1519 and in 1522 after a voyage of 42,000 miles the Victoria was the only one to return with a crew of just 18, all the rest of the expedition having been lost.
